This traditional Balinese temple deer is very old and rare.
Weathered by age, the legs and the ears have been replaced. The antlers are original
We saw this in an exhibition of Indonesian art in the Crossley St Gallery in Melbourne in the 70's. In the early 2000's the gentleman who bought it was downsizing and he sold it to us. Wood is difficult to age but there is no doubt that this is over 100 years old.
The story of temple deer is written up in Musings on our Balique website
