This Pekalongan batik is from Oie Khing Liem, the very well known batik maker. This is a pagi sore kain panjang. (trans: morning evening long cloth) Kain are usually 2.6 meters long and such a cloth would have cost a small fortune when new.
Oie Khing Liem was a neighbor of Van Zuylen and bought the rights to her designs. It is said that he offered the family 60.000 guilders for them, a huge sum, at that time a day worker's pay was about 10 sens. Oie Khing Liem also employed Van Zuylen's workers resulting in this superb batik.
It is in very fine condition with no holes or repairs.
