Intan pendant centrepiece. The pendant is silver, gold plated and comes from Java. It is 100 (plus or minus a few) years old. The strand on which it hangs is composed of clear crystal beads and laminated mother-of -pearl beads strung on German silk thread with a German silk plaited tie.
Intan is the skin of the diamond and it is faceted mine cut diamond, not finely polished, unlike the modern diamond. In the Straits Chinese of the Victorian era these are called Nyonya jewellery or Perenakan, but in Java it was not just the Chinese who wore them.
